Filler, mostly

I’m thinking one post a week might be the best I can hope for at the moment. Time keeps getting away from me and although I’ve been trying to write as much as I can, there’s just so much going on and I want to be present for all of it. Also, yesterday was Justin’s last day off before Christmas and he’ll be working long hours so I’m on full-blown mum duty for the next little bit. Also, I’m trying to get these top-secret Christmas gifts made and wrapped in time to actually give them to people. I can’t say what they are, because some people who will be getting one read this. And some of those people won’t get their gift until we see them again in the spring, so it’ll be a while before I can say what they are, and by then nobody’s going to care what I made for Christmas, so you’ll just have to never know.

Small one is currently “napping” which means she spent about half an hour sleeping and for the past 20 minutes or so has been doing all manner of twists and flips in her crib. Just partying away. Seriously, how does her body even bend itself into some of these shapes I’m seeing on the monitor? Is she some kind of secret baby contortionist? She’s so little and we’re still so afraid of breaking her, when really she’s probably much less likely to break than those of us with older, more brittle bones and higher centres of gravity. Maybe the wee pretzel-woman should be worried about us instead.

We hit a milestone a few nights ago: small one slept from just after midnight straight through to 7am. We were pretty sure it was a fluke, which was seemingly confirmed the next night when she was up for an hour crying from 2-3am (this is my fault because I was trying to help her get back to sleep without feeding her, which took much longer than just sticking a boob in her mouth would have). But then the next night she slept right through again. A glimmer of hope! And then last night, up for an hour from 1-2. It’s a process, like everything.

Anyway, the thing about writing is that when I get really focussed it ends up taking up a lot of my day, and suddenly nap time is over or it’s time for me to go to bed and the rest of my to-do list has been completely neglected. And then I realize I’ve barely said two words to my husband since he got home from work, and anyway he’s been busy with fantasy football and/or playing Clash of Clans on his phone, and we sure are living the glamourous life aren’t we? But we’ve resolved to put our screens away more often, because when you’re not letting your kid have any screen time you should probably also practice what you preach. And also, marriage. So this isn’t one of those posts where I promise to blog more, because we all know how that goes. But it is easier to write these newsy, what’s-been-going-on type posts because the more general ones (also known as the more interesting ones) need more editing. Which I guess makes this one filler.

Sorry. Maybe I should have put that thing about filler at the beginning so you could decide whether or not to read this. I’ll just put it in the title.

We’ve gotten pretty bored of most of her toys, so we’ve had to get creative.

Even your filler is interesting….but could be because I’m home sick in the snow with a 5 month old. Either way keep blogging.

    1. You’re too kind. Even if it’s just the illness/weather, I’ll take it!

Hope you feel better soon – it’s tough being unwell with a little one to take care of.
